Excellent piece! I'm thankful you brought it to my attention, and it seems particularly a pro pro in light of Tucker Carlson's interview regarding Nick Land.

Jesus refers to himself as “the light and the way” as well as urging his followers not to hide their light but hold it aloft where others can see. Peter refers to Jesus as phosphorus in 2 Peter 1:19. The ESV translation reads:

“And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,”

Here the Greek phosphoros is translated as Morning Star or “Light-Bringer” (Hêlêl in Hebrew, Lucifer in Latin). This “Morning Star” is traditionally said to be Venus as seen before dawn, but I intuitively imagine the rising sun as a morning star of sorts. Jesus is also identified with this same “Star of Morning” in Revelation 22:16:

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”

Jerome’s Latin Vulgate translation of Isaiah 14:12 (in which the fallen King Nebuchadnezzar II is described as Hêlêl ben Shahar, “Lucifer Son of the Morning”) would introduce capital L Lucifer, a character not appearing in the Hebrew Scriptures, causing much confusion and a definitive association with light bringers and Jesus. In Luke 10:18 Christ describes having seen Satan fall from the sky “like lightning” - a statement later twisted to manufacture the idea of the fall a rebellious character “Lucifer” before creation. This has led to Christians learning of a non-existent devil named Lucifer who curiously shares a lot of characteristics with their savior Christ, as if there is cognitive dissonance intentionally embedded in normative Christian paradigms.

Thanks to these curious mistranslations and centuries of misinformation when Christ arrives to a Jewish community his language and attributes have already been suggested to be like those of the devil, yet in the New Testament every mention of the Light Bringer / Morning Star is positive, and the only person identified with the morning star “Lucifer” is Christ.
